Benefits of the Chao Pinhole® Periodontal Technique

May 8 • 1 minute read

Modern technology has helped generate innovative periodontal treatment options for those with diminished gum health. The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST) is at the forefront of these advancements, as it offers a unique approach to periodontal care.

Below are a few of the advantages for patients who elect to undergo this procedure.

What is the Chao Pinhole Technique?

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is the ideal choice for gum rejuvenation. The procedure itself is both simple and minimally invasive. The grafted material is inserted into the gums through a small pinhole entrance created by the doctor. Tissue-stimulating proteins may be inserted as well. The tissue is healed within days, as opposed to weeks.

Benefits of the Procedure

The gum line may recede with age or after experiencing periodontal disease, resulting in complications to your oral and overall health. With more of the tooth exposed, it’s easier and quicker for cavities to reach the root of the teeth. In some cases, the root itself may be exposed. This causes intense sensitivity to temperature. If over-exposed teeth degrade, you may need to have them removed and replaced.

You can avoid costly surgical treatments in the future by addressing your gum health with this technique. Two of the treatments used to improve gum health are a standard grafting procedure and the Chao PST.

Traditional Gum Graft

Your dentist may recommend a gum graft if your gingiva recession is severe. There are three different methods to achieve this, but they all require the placement of healthy gum tissue to bolster the existing gum line. Although effective, the stitches required by these procedures make the healing process more difficult than that of the Chao Pinhole technique. This traditional method also carries an increased healing time.
